Spiritual Discovery

This topic appeals to me with my Dora the Explorer hat on! Discovery comes from a place of curiosity and openness. Rather than accept the dogma that your family or friends believe about spirituality/ religion, why not go on a journey of discovery?

Having said that, I personally don’t have a great deal of time for ‘religion’ per se. Most religions smack of dogma, developed by men a long time ago in a different age to suit themselves or control others. Many religions from all corners of the earth and across many centuries have a lot to answer for in terms of wars, barbaric acts and extreme views.

Having said that, many philosophies (more so than religions) are based on a peaceful and loving ideal which appeals to me. By discovering what each has to offer, there is usually a ‘gem’ or two you can use in your own spiritual journey.

Obvious religions/ philosophies you could investigate include Baha’i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism. Many of these can be broken down further into subsets such as Roman Catholic, Protestant and the Uniting Church which are examples from Christianity. Lesser known philosophies/ religions include Brahma Kumaris, Native American spirituality, Neopaganism, etc. as well as more eccentric ones which I’ll leave you to discover for yourself :)

An interesting website to start the ball rolling is http://www.religioustolerance.org/var_rel.htm but don’t leave it there. This journey of discovery could take the rest of your life and why not? Each discovery, each new book, spiritual discussion, etc. will give you more food for thought and enrich your life exponentially.

Open your hearts and minds and see what discoveries you can come up with!

Love, peace and wisdom
