Spiritual Work and Play

For most of us, a great deal of our time is spent working and playing. Both are worthy endeavours. Work gives us purpose and earns us a living so we can take care of ourselves and live independently. Play is essential to maintain balance and have fun!

It is very easy to get caught up in this busy-ness however. The real trick for those of us seeking a more spiritual life, is to remember while we are working and playing. We can remember that we are connected to Infinite Intelligence while we meditate or pray. We can remember if we pay attention when sitting quietly in a garden or by the sea. We can remember perhaps when we are doing very little.

Wellbeing from istockphotoThere may not seem to be any imperative for us to remember when we are busy working or playing. The problem is that we can forget for great stretches of time and things happen because we’re not paying attention. We lose our proactivity in the self-mastery department! In the words of John Lennon “Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans”.

Our work and play mates will appreciate that we can keep calm and maintain a sense of humour no matter what happens around us. We can transcend petty annoyances and people who try to upset the balance. This is particularly important whilst we are at work if we are to translate our good intentions during quiet times to the real world around us and make a positive difference.

Love, peace and wisdom
