Spiritual Inspiration

to all my flickr friends, this ones for you... by Tacit RequiemI’m sure I’m not alone in having been inspired by various people throughout my life. Dead or alive, alone or en masse, it is usually something they have said or done. For me, spiritual accomplishments are most inspirational.

I recall many years ago hearing Wayne Dyer speak here in Sydney. I had already read a number of his books and was especially blown away by the transformation from his writing Your Erroneous Zones (very psychological and logical) to Real Magic (extraordinarily truthful and joyous account of his spiritual transformation). I was therefore very excited to hear him in person.

He did not disappoint. Long after the other speakers had disappeared, Wayne was still there in the breaks talking to people and signing his newly released CD Meditations for Manifesting (which I still use to this day). I was lined up to have my CD signed and I was struck by everyone else’s (and my) reaction to him. Grown men hugged him and came away crying. The woman in front of me said he had changed her life. You see, he was the quintessential model for peace, joy and love. He radiated these wonderful qualities to which I aspire. When it was my turn, I asked if I too could give him a hug which was warmly and sincerely returned, and I thought yep, it is actually possible to reach this point (not there yet but working on it!)

There are many inspirational figures but usually only one or two who truly resonate. Mine have also included Gandhi (way for one man to make a difference without aggression!) and my mum (bringing up three girls on her own, doing shift work and door-to-door sales, and working every day on being the best person she can be).

Of course, my greatest inspiration comes from God, who is all-everything. Every quality exists within God in perfect balance and harmony. He works from His law side and His love side; both are essential. No-one thrives on love with no boundaries, nor do they thrive on discipline without love.

On those good days when we remember that we are more like God than not, we are actually inspired by our Higher Self. Let’s pray today that more people are inspired by kind, loving people and fewer by crazies!

Love, peace and wisdom

  1. Annie, I couldn’t agree with you more…it is definitely people who are usually our biggest inspiration.

My aim, just as yours, is to exist in perfect balance and harmony, which I believe is inspired by our Higher Self.

Don’t you feel the shift these days though, towards peace and love and caring for others? I feel it in my life and I’m encouraging my children to live in the same way.

You have also inspired me to again read “Your Erroneous Zones”, which I haven’t read since I was in my twenties! :)

    Joanne.

  2. Anne Maybus says:

Hi, Annie. I am so jealous that you got to meet Wayne Dyer. Isn’t he amazing? So serene and so inspiring. I want what he’s got.

  3. Annie says:

    Hi Joanne and Anne

Yep, the old Wayne Dyer was very clever but the one since “Real Magic” is something else! I’ll share a bit more of the story with you … when I asked him if he had read Frederick Baile’s “Hidden Power for Human Problems” (my bible as you know), he said no, but seredipity was so likely that someone would surely put it in his hand. I thought I’d (serendipitously) send it to him since it was out of print at that time, along with a letter saying the gem I most loved from his talk was “Be kind, not right”. After a couple of months, he sent me a couple of his little books and said I was “kind not right” to have sent him Frederick which he had so enjoyed reading.

And yes Anne, I definitely want what he’s having!

And yes Joanne, I do feel a shift as more and more people take stock and try to live their lives in peace and harmony. Although there seem to be others who are moving further away from this ideal, they can be invited to join us, not the other way around!

  4. I’m planning on looking out for the books you have mentioned here, Annie.

I like that quote…”Be kind, not right”. In most cases, I’m sure that there is no right and wrong. What is right for one person can be wrong for another, (and vice-versa). It all comes down to differing opinions and freedom of choice.

And kindness…well, that’s just universal, it’s a language that everyone understands!

  5. Ahh, Annie – I love that story about you sending Wayne Dyer that book. It gives me goosebumps! He’s one of my inspirations too, to be even a little like him would be … oh… wonderful.

Here’s to kind and loving people who glow with that inner light – I’m so blessed to have you as a role model for that, my friend!
