Will you come on a Journey with us?

I’m already hearing murmurings from my northern friends that the first signs of spring are in the air. Here in Brisbane, even though today may officially be the first day of Autumn, there’s no hint of the dry winter to come… we woke up to a wet, green world again today.

In the middle of the heat and humidity, I often wonder what it would be like to be in snow right about now. And one day, that’ll happen. I’ll get to live the dream I’ve held dear for ever so long… to spend Christmas in Scotland in a castle with all my family around me. Woolly jumpers, mulled wine, roaring fires… it all sounds so romantic, doesn’t it?

I think I got a little off track there, I’m meant to be introducing you to our theme for March… the theme is Journey. And I guess thinking about Journeys often takes my mind off to Scotland – there is something about the land of my ancestors that’s calling to me to come home for another visit. What about you? Is there a journey you’d like to take? A trip on the Ghan perhaps, dissecting Australia? Or sailing the Greek Isles? Trains and boats and planes… definitely the type of travel that springs to mind when I contemplate ‘journey’.

But as our contributors will show this month, there are many more ways to look at journeys… come, I’ve kicked my heels together three times and the door is open to a magical world here at The Calm Space… come on a journey with us!

This Week

At Breathing Space – it’s time to take a deep, deep breath and find yourself somewhere on the coast of Scotland with Amy Palko’s beautiful photo… and the words of Rumi to entice you further. Do download our desktop wallpaper for March while you’re there!

  1. For you it’s the snowy Christmas in Scotland.

For me it’s an overwhelming compulsion to go to Ireland> It has no particular logic and I can only put it down to the calling of my forebears!

I’d love to go to France England Switzerland Greece Italy etc etc. But if I can only have one then it HAS to be Ireland!

  2. Joanna Young says:

Come visit, both of you! Chris if you get as far as Ireland you can certainly come visit us in Scotland too :-)

  3. Don’t worry Joanna you’ll be on my list. I think we have an arrangement to show me Ian Rankin’s Edingurgh!!

  4. Hilary says:

Hi Karen .. you know what I’d like to do .. is go visit all my blogging friends .. what a tremendous experience that would be – see parts of the world I haven’t been to .. and meet the friends I’ve made blogging ..

Great idea – one day I will!! & go north to Scotland, and go down under to Australia and NZ .. yay!! & warmth everywhere .. had enough of cold, and snow & we haven’t had it bad down here in the south ..

  5. Bo Mackison says:

Journey. Perfect theme for moving from cold and snowy to something a bit warmer and sunnier, for appreciating every day a minute at a time, for taking one step forward, and then the next step, and the next.

  6. Chris – I’m thinking one day we need to shrug our backpacks on our shoulders, lace up our walking shoes and brave the looong journey to the other side of the world. We’ll visit your Ireland, all our beautiful friends in Scotland (yep, Joanna, we’re definitely coming to see you… hope you’ve a spare bed or two:) and whatever else takes our fancy!

Joanna – it’s on my list so it will happen! Can’t wait!

Hilary – Come! Do! it’s still hot here (actually, it never really gets cold…) it would be so wonderful to have you visit! I love the idea of visiting blogging friends around the world. You’d be guaranteed a warm welcome and a friendly face wherever you went… how delicious would that be?

Bo – you ‘get’ it, don’t you? I love that! Here’s to appreciating every day a minute at a time – may your day be so blessed, and may the sun shine strongly for you.

  7. Anne Maybus says:

Ireland calls me, too. The home of my mothers family, the last members dying out over there with no new generation coming along.

Scotland has a strong pull, too. My fathers line came from Scotland and way back were part of the Vikings that settled there hundreds of years ago.

Isn’t it funny that the call can still be there in our blood after so long?

  8. It sounds to me like there’s overwhelming support for a Calm Space World Tour!

In the meantime, perhaps we could have a virtual tour. Could we possibly share a line or a photo about what we love about where we live to encourage others to visit from afar?

This time of year is the best for visiting Melbourne. Lovely to walk from the bustle of the city centre, along the quiet, tree-lined river to the Melbourne Cricket Ground and its giant arena at the start of the football season.

  9. Anne – what amazes me is that most of us Aussies seem to have that call in us, to a ‘mother country’ far, far away…

Angela – oooh, yes, a Calm Space World Tour! What a fabulous idea. I love the idea of a virtual tour – maybe we’ll schedule that in some time in the next month. And I’ll come walk along the Yarra with you, anytime. Sounds wonderful…
