Once again, the writers of The Calm Space open their windows and their hearts and share a little of their festive celebrations, and a lot of their festive spirit with you!
Our pop quiz this week: Who once forgot a gift for her husband at Christmas? And who leaves all her shopping to the last minute (she’s probably out there right now, shopping madly!)? And finally, who loves to decorate with candles and fairy lights – because that way the dust doesn’t show? Read on… and if you missed our previous holiday expose’s – the links are at the bottom.

My perfect Christmas Day is… waking up to a light snow fall, just before the kids run in and jump on the bed….the rest is always perfect.
My favourite Christmas tradition is… the midnight Turkey. Yup, we eat it at midnight!
I want to celebrate New Year … In Style
On Boxing Day I’ll be… Cleaning a mess
All I want for Christmas is… to eat and not gain a pound.
Shopping – organised or last minute? Love it or hate it? Oh I Love to shop – I am really organized, but usually forget somebody..like my husband….yeah, that wasn’t a good year.
I like to decorate with… Green, silver, & gold
My favourite Christmas movie is… A Christmas Story…”Fragile. (FRA – GEE –LEH) Must be Italian.”.
My most cherished Christmas memory is… just one? Hmm..Sitting around the dining table, after a huge meal, playing bingo with my brothers, cousins and grandparents while waiting for the midnight Turkey.
I’m able to stay calm and cool at Christmas when… I take some time for myself.

My perfect Christmas Day is… frosty on the outside and cosy on the inside
My favourite Christmas tradition is … cuddling up with the kids for Christmas Dr Who.
I want to celebrate New Year… with a dram of whisky, some good music and hogmonay kisses.
On Boxing Day I’ll be… eating leftovers while wading through knee-depth piles of wrapping paper.
All I want for Christmas is… the day off!
Shopping – organised or last minute? Love it or hate it? I am chronically disorganised when it comes to Christmas shopping. I tend to do it all in one day (normally the 24th!) and then arrive home in a horribly bad mood which can only be alleviated with lashings of mulled wine.
I like to decorate with… origami cranes. I made a whole heap of them a couple of years ago and they looked beautiful on the tree.
My favourite Christmas movie is… Love Actually. That scene at the airport that both opens and closes the movie makes me cry every time.
My most cherished Christmas memory is… convincing myself that I could hear sleighbells outside my window while staying over at my grandparents the night before Christmas. I remain convinced 25yrs later.
I’m able to stay calm and cool at Christmas… when I have a glass of champagne in one hand and the tv remote in the other.

My perfect Christmas Day is… not hot :) Actually, I love it filled with laughter, hugs, games, good food and silliness… and wrapping paper strewn everywhere. It’s always hot!
My favourite Christmas tradition is… playing Santa and giving gifts to show I care
I want to celebrate New Year… quietly. A nice dinner, a glass of bubbles… and my husband beside me
On Boxing Day … I like to sit with pen and notebook and relish in the joy that always surrounds me like a cloud after the rush of preparation and the madness that is our family Christmas! It’s a time to look back and to look forwards and I always look forward to Boxing Day when the kids are thoroughly occupied, there are enough left overs that I don’t have to cook, and I can start to plan the next twelve months.
All I want for Christmas is… my family around me, safe and sound and whole. And a good book wouldn’t go astray.
Shopping – organised or last minute? Love it or hate it? I really would like to say organised. Really I would. And I guess, most of the time I am (I just start to fret that I’ve forgotten something, or someone… and go over and over my list to be sure). This year, I’ve done a lot of my shopping online and that has really been a blessing. And I’m never last minute – that would raise my stress levels into the stratosphere!
I like to decorate with… lots of fairy lights and candles that make the house glow
My favourite Christmas movie is … oh, too many to pick! I’ve been watching The Santa Claus series (with Tim Allen) with my youngest this week, and I do eternally love Miracle on 34th Street. But our family favourite has to be Home Alone. To quote my husband “I just love to see bad guys get a whooping”.
My most cherished Christmas memory is… There are so many! Waking on any Christmas morn as a child and sneaking out to look at the tree, lights aglow, piles of presents underneath! Followed closely by snuggling into Mum and Dad’s bed to open the presents Santa had left us… all six of us and our presents in a double bed – the prized spot was the one between Mum and Dad!
I’m able to stay calm and cool at Christmas when… I am organised, make a list and can stay in air-conditioning
This year, I’ve moved our celebrations to Christmas Eve dinner where at least the sun will have set. We’re having 21+ for dinner on our back veranda.
