Oh What Fun: Sharing Our Holiday Magic! Dee & Anne

I am always eternally curious about how other people celebrate Christmas, what they love to do, their favourite movies, and all that jazz. So I thought it’d be fun to share a little of our lives with our readers here throughout December! Each week, we’ll feature two or three of our contributors, as they open the curtains and give us a peek into their lives at this, the most wonderful and festive, time of the year!
Are you ready for the magic?
Once you’ve read about Dee and Anne’s celebrations, why not share yours? The comments are open, and we’d really love to hear from you!

My perfect Christmas Day is… filled with love of family and friends and all just being together
My favourite Christmas tradition is… decorating the Christmas tree with my Mum and now, my 2 nieces (6 and 3) or… trying to remember if it’s the year to eat a lot or sensibly (I rarely remember so do the latter)
I want to celebrate New Year… quietly! :) the sadist in me wishes that I had the guts to set up a footpath stand that sells Panadol, sunglasses and water on New Years day for all those still trudging home (how cruel!)
On Boxing Day I’ll be… eating chocolate and sitting around in pants with an elastic waist as a result of question 2’s answer
All I want for Christmas is… a faster metabolism? To be with my family
Shopping – organised or last minute? A bit of both. This year I’ve managed to be a little organised, have finished most of my cooking but there’s likely to be something last minute that I’ve forgotten which will drive me crazy. Christmas cards are occasionally written but seldom sent. Love it or hate it? HATE shopping at any time of the year although you’d never know judging by the decreasing bank balance and increasing credit card bill
I like to decorate with… I’d like to be able to say with flair! Most of my decorations have sentimental value; things my Grandparents or parents have given me or gifts my nieces have made. It’s a beautiful patchwork of love
My favourite Christmas movie is… The Little Drummer Boy… par rumper pum pum!
My most cherished Christmas memory is… the entire family with cousins, Aunt’s and Uncles around the table at my Gran & Pap’s house; life was easy then and uncomplicated by the dramas that arise in life
I’m able to stay calm and cool at Christmas when… the smarty pants in me would say when… I’ve had enough Jack Daniels to calm my nerves, but I don’t drink during the festive season generally so…. When I’m not running late!

My perfect Christmas Day is… knee deep in kids and torn wrapping paper at my mums. My kids, nieces, nephews, brothers and extended family crowded around a table bulging with food and each of us wearing those silly paper hats from our bonbons. Ah perfect.
My favourite Christmas tradition is… the lighting of the tree. Once the tree is decorated and everything is in place we wait until everyone is home before turning on the lights. it began when the kids were little and we waited for their father to get home from work. Now it has become a tradition.
I want to celebrate New Year… at home. We live way out of Melbourne but are high on a hill. If we look out of our front window we can see the fireworks in the city. This is the best place to see them from.
On Boxing Day I’ll be… doing it all over again with my in-laws.
All I want for Christmas is… to have everyone well and happy and able to be together.
Shopping – organised or last minute? Love it or hate it? Totally last minute despite all my best intentions. I loathe shopping and do most of it online.
I like to decorate with… does dust count?
My favourite Christmas movie is… Miracle on 34th street – the original version.
My most cherished Christmas memory is… a actually a mish-mash of all my Christmases in one. Dad is back, I am a child watching the Christmas Carols and I can still relive my children’s first Christmases. It is probably typical me, though. Just catch a series of memories and emotions, bottle them up. give them a shake and get a blast of the lot all at once when you take the lid off.
I’m able to stay calm and cool at Christmas when… it’s over!

Great idea Karen!
It’s like peeping in the windows of our delightful contributors and watching them at play.
LOVED Dee’s New Year stand concept – equipped with panadol!!!
LOVED Anne’s dust as decoration. I’d definitely feel at home at Anne’s!
:) Thanks Chris. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with these questions, and I’ve certainly learned a thing or two from each of you that I didn’t know and probably never would have guessed!
And Anne, dust counts. It HAS to, ’cause there is still a lot in my house since that dust storm about a month ago!
